Petitions for remissions, 1919-1923.

These records document Governor Edwin P. Morrow's use of the power and privilege of the governor to remit fines assessed against violators of the law. Most petitions are accompanied by an envelope listing the petitioner's name, county and offense, and frequently the date of executive action. Reasons for approving or rejecting petitions are often included on the envelope. Attached to some petitions are copies of indictments or other court records and related correspondence, as well as letters of approval or rejection by the governor.
